Medicinal / Therapeutic Use
The Asparagus has multipurpose therapeutic properties and uses as mentioned below:

  • It is an Alkaline food
  • An excellent body cleaner
  • Prevents blood acidity
  • Its nitrogenous contents called "ASPRAGIN" which has diuretic properties
  • Liberal use of young shoots acts as a rejuvenator
  • Asparagus should be avoided in Goitre, Liver & Kidney diseases, cases of excess mucus and celarpal mucus

Rheumatism:
Asparagus is a valuable medicinal food [dietary component] in rheumatism on account of its potash contents. However, it should be steamed and hot boiled. Approximately 80% of the valuable salts are lost due to boiling. An infusion prepared from this vegetable is considered highly beneficial in treatment of Rheumatism and chronic Gout. It should be given in doses of 30 to 60 ml. It should,however be avoided in advanced stages of kidney diseases.
